Families that are eager to adopt a baby in the United States will see longer and longer waiting periods as well as higher costs. The reason : Lower birth rate . Less babies born means, of course, that there are less babies that will be placed for adoption. The figures from the 2016 census show that the country’s population grew by only 0.7% , the smallest on record since 1936-37, according to William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution. Easier access to birth control , and longer acting contraceptives may play a big part in the population decrease.
Due to less babies being available to adopt, attorneys, agencies and hopeful adopting parents will find it necessary to increase their advertising and outreach revenue in order to reach those fewer women that are contemplating adoption , thus increasing the cost of their adoption.
